Meet Johnathan Academy: A BC-Certified Grade 8–12 Independent School on Vancouver's West Side

Johnathan Academy is a BC Ministry of Education certified independent school for Grades 8–12 on Vancouver's West Side, at Oak Street and 41st Avenue (400-5750 Oak Street), about 15 minutes from YVR.

Our goal is simple: help each student reach a strong university that fits them, and be ready to succeed there.

A diploma universities read directly

Graduates earn the B.C. Certificate of Graduation (Dogwood Diploma), the same diploma issued by public schools in the province. Courses follow the provincial curriculum and are taught by BC-certified teachers.

Small classes, academic focus

• Average class size of about 10, so teachers see where each student stands in the first weeks.
• Full English immersion in classes, assemblies and clubs.
• University planning from Grade 10: course selection, AP choices, test timing and application strategy are planned together.

Beyond the diploma

• AP courses alongside the BC curriculum, plus an after-school AP credit program (105 hours per course).
• Authorized AP and SAT test centre: students learn and write their exams at the same school.
• Competition test centre for Waterloo/CEMC, AMC, PhysicsBowl, chemistry contests and more.

University outcomes

Johnathan Academy's 362 graduates in the classes of 2024–2026 earned 1,900+ university offers, about 5.3 per graduate, including University of Toronto (242), UBC (125), McMaster (57), Waterloo (39), McGill (37) and UCL (34). See our outcomes →

Living in Vancouver

Students without family in Vancouver are placed with screened local homestay families as part of registration. Our education group has run four campuses in China for over ten years, so we know the transition between the two systems well.
