University counselling at Johnathan Academy begins in Grade 10. That timing is deliberate: by Grade 12, most of the decisions that shape an application — which courses were taken, which AP subjects, when tests were written — have already been made.

What the Process Covers

Building the academic profile. Course selection is treated as an application decision, not just a scheduling one. A student aiming at engineering needs a different Grade 11 and 12 than one aiming at commerce, and the difference has to be planned two years ahead.

Testing strategy. Which AP subjects to sit, and when. Whether the SAT is worth writing for the target list. How those dates interact with the school year and with application deadlines.

The application itself. Building the target list across Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and elsewhere; personal statements and supplementary essays; references; portfolio and audition requirements where a programme calls for them.

Keeping families in the loop. Counsellors work with the student and the family together. Application seasons run badly when the student and the parents are working from different assumptions about where and why.

Where Graduates Go

Graduates enter universities in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Asia. Course planning starts from the destination rather than the other way around — a student who decides in Grade 12 to apply to a programme with specific prerequisites may find those prerequisites are no longer schedulable.

Beginning Earlier

Families who are considering Johnathan Academy for Grade 10 or 11 are welcome to raise university plans during the admissions conversation. It is a reasonable question to ask before enrolling, not after.
