Custodianship

Required by Canadian law for international students under 19 who are not accompanied by a parent.

International students under the age of 19 who are not travelling with a parent or legal guardian must have a legal custodian in Canada. This is a hard requirement of the study permit application.

Students may appoint Johnathan Academy as their authorized custodian. In taking on that role, the school meets the qualification criteria, assumes the associated responsibilities, and follows the relevant school policy.

What the school takes on

  • Ensuring the student's study permit and Canadian visa remain current
  • Ongoing communication with the homestay family, so that the family carries out its duties
  • Ongoing communication with parents regarding the student's supervision, care and performance

How to apply

Complete the Guardians Application Form and return it to Admissions. The form is available on the Forms & Documents page.

Custodianship is a service separate from tuition; contact Admissions for the fee and the process.
