The school year runs in four terms rather than one continuous timetable. Students carry fewer subjects at a time, with more contact hours in each.

Term Structure

The Summer term runs subject to enrolment and is confirmed each year.

Why It Is Built This Way

Eight courses spread across a year means eight sets of homework competing every night. Four at a time means a student can actually go deep in each — which matters most in the subjects where falling behind compounds, like mathematics and the sciences.

It also creates a natural recovery point. A student who struggles in a Fall course can address it in Winter rather than carrying the problem for a full year.

Using Spring and Summer

The lighter Spring and Summer terms are used for:

• Credit recovery — repeating a course where the grade needs to improve
• Getting ahead — taking a prerequisite early to free up a later timetable
• Catching up after a transfer — students arriving mid-year from another system

Spring also overlaps the AP examination period in May. Students sitting AP exams should plan their Spring course load with that in mind, and discuss it with the counselling team before selecting.

The dated calendar for each school year — term start and end dates, holidays, professional days, assessment periods, and reporting dates — is published as a document and available from the school office and the documents page.
