Tuition & Fees
Fee schedule for the 2026–2027 academic year.
The application fee and uniform are one-time charges; the rest recur each academic year. The total follows the school's own schedule and includes those one-time items.
These are commonly assumed to be included in tuition, but are billed separately:
- AP exam fees — CAD $290–$430 per exam depending on subject and registration window, paid through the AP centre
- After-school AP credit courses — CAD $4,500 per course
- Summer credit courses — CAD $1,500 domestic, CAD $2,000 international
- Homestay placement — arranged through the homestay programme
- Field trips and other optional programmes

The school office issues an invoice once a place is confirmed. Payment deadlines, instalment options, and accepted methods are as stated on that invoice.

Refunds follow the school's School Fee Refund Policy (Policy 201, in effect September 1, 2020). The summary below is not the policy — the original governs, and is available on the Forms & Documents page.
Ground rules
- A contract with the school is formed when the application for admission is accepted
- A refund requires written notice of withdrawal signed by both the student and the parent/guardian
- Application fees and optional fees are never refundable
- A student issued an official school letter (Letter of Acceptance, Temporary Resident Visa letter, or Re-entry letter) is no longer eligible for a 100% refund, even if the original document is returned
Two cases that qualify for a full refund
1. The school fails to obtain or maintain Group 4 Classification from the Ministry of Education in its first year of operation — 100% if classes have not begun, otherwise prorated by weeks completed 2. The student is denied a Study Permit by Citizenship and Immigration Canada, provided all three hold:
- The permit was applied for within 30 days of receiving the letter of acceptance
- Official documentation of the refusal is given to the school
- The refund is requested within one year of the date of the letter of acceptance
Withdrawal before and after classes begin
On written notice (registered mail or in person), the school retains the following share of first-year fees:

If a student is dismissed, the school retains 100% of that year's fees and 50% of any second-year fees paid.
Second and subsequent years
For a student who has indicated they are returning but withdraws before the year begins:
- September intake: 50% of annual tuition refunded if withdrawal is on or before May 31
- January intake: 50% refunded if withdrawal is on or before October 31
- No refund after those dates
The bond
The Ministry expects a start-up school on interim certification to hold enough cash to cover refunds without drawing on the independent school bond. Johnathan Academy has posted a CAD $125,000 bond, which may be used to refund tuition in the event of closure.
Johnathan Academy has been bonded with the Ministry of Education since May 2019. In accordance with Section 8 of the Independent School Regulation, the school has posted a CAD $125,000 bond, completed by an auditor qualified under Section 205 of the Business Corporations Act, as a financial guarantee for tuition paid by families.
As with all schools specialising in international education, this irrevocable bond may be used to refund tuition in the event of school closure.
