Student Handbook

The Parents/Guardians and Student Handbook is the reference for how the school operates day to day. It is issued at registration and available from the school office at any time. What follows is an orientation to what it covers, not a replacement for it.

Conduct and Discipline

The Student Conduct and Discipline Policy sets out what is expected and what follows when expectations are not met. Two points families most often want clarified:

• Consequences are progressive — the response to a repeated issue differs from the response to a first one
• Serious matters involve parents from the start, not after a decision has been made

Attendance

Attendance is a graduation requirement for B.C. credit courses, not merely a school preference. Notify the office on the morning of an absence. For extended or planned absences, tell the school in advance — missed assessments are far easier to arrange around when they are known about beforehand.

Academic Honesty

Work submitted must be the student's own. This includes the use of AI tools: using one to help you understand something is study; submitting its output as your own work is not, and is treated as such.

Devices

Personal devices are permitted for schoolwork. During examinations — including AP and SAT sittings — the rules are set by the College Board and are considerably stricter than the school's ordinary policy. Read those separately; they are on the exam policies page.

Dress and Conduct on Campus

Set out in the handbook, along with rules on food, common areas, and behaviour on school property.

When Something Goes Wrong

Contact the subject teacher first for anything course-related. For matters spanning multiple courses, or concerns about wellbeing, contact the school office and ask for the counsellor. Raising something early is almost always easier to resolve than raising it at the end of a term.
