US Contests
American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) hosted at Johnathan Academy.
The MAA's American Mathematics Competitions program leads the nation in strengthening the mathematical capabilities of the next generation of problem-solvers.
Johnathan Academy is an official certified school for the AMC exam.
AMC 10 / AMC 12
AMC 10 — for students in 10th grade and below, covers high school curriculum up to 10th grade.
AMC 12 — covers the entire high school curriculum, including trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry, but excluding calculus.

AMC 8
AMC 8 — 25-question, 40-minute exam for middle school mathematics.
Johnathan Academy is a certified school site for the American Mathematics Competitions. The AMC is the entry point to the United States olympiad path, and a qualifying score is recognised by admissions offices well beyond mathematics departments.
Which Contest
AMC 8 — middle school students. 40 minutes, 25 questions.
AMC 10 — students in grade 10 or below who are under 17.5 years of age on the contest day.
AMC 12 — students in grade 12 or below who are under 19.5 years of age on the contest day.
The age limits are set by the MAA and are strict. A student in Grade 10 who is over 17.5 writes AMC 12, not AMC 10 — check the age rule before registering, not after.
AMC 10 and 12 each run in an A and a B sitting. A student may write one of each level, but not both sittings of the same level.
Where It Leads
A qualifying AMC 10 or 12 score invites the student to the AIME, and from there the olympiad sequence. Most students never go past AMC, and that is fine — a strong AMC score is itself a credential, and the preparation improves ordinary mathematics coursework as a side effect.
When
AMC 10 and 12 run in November, in two sittings roughly a week apart. AMC 8 runs in January. Exact dates and registration deadlines are published each season — registration closes about a week before each contest.
The exams are written digitally on the student's own device.
