Advanced Placement (AP)
Johnathan Academy is an authorized AP Exam Center, accepting both internal and external students.
AP Exams are standardized exams designed to measure how well you've mastered the content and skills of a specific AP course. Most AP courses have an end-of-year paper-and-pencil exam.
We accept external students to register for the AP exam at our school.

Registration & Resources
Advanced Placement courses are university-level subjects taught in high school. A strong AP result does two things: it shows selective universities that a student can handle first-year material, and at many institutions it earns transfer credit that shortens the degree.
This page is about taking AP courses at Johnathan Academy. If you are looking to write an AP exam here without enrolling in a course — including as a student at another school — see the AP Exam Centre.
Courses Offered
The after-school AP credit programme runs alongside the regular timetable and currently covers Calculus AB and BC, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, and Economics.
Courses are built against the College Board's published course frameworks, so what is taught in class is what the May exam asks about — including the free-response formats that students most often lose marks on.
How the Programme Runs
- Eligibility: Grades 9–12
- Duration: early September through late April, running to the exam window in May
- Instruction: 105 hours per course, enough to cover the framework and still leave time for exam practice
- Class size: small sections taught by BC-certified teachers
- Location: Suite 400, 5750 Oak Street, Vancouver
A course runs only if at least four students enrol. If a course is cancelled for low enrolment, tuition paid for it is refunded in full.
Choosing Subjects
More AP courses is not automatically better. Two subjects taken seriously, with scores that hold up, read better on an application than four taken thinly. Which subjects matter also depends on the destination — an engineering applicant and a commerce applicant should not be making the same choices.
This is worth discussing with the university counselling team before registering rather than after.
Fees and Registration
Tuition is CAD $4,500 per AP course. Popular subjects are allocated in the order registrations are received.
The AP exam fee is separate and is paid through the AP Exam Centre — enrolling in a course here does not automatically register you for the exam.
