Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students of Johnathan Academy,
We would like to inform you of a significant development that may impact your travel plans in the coming week. CUPE Local 4500, representing 180 Coast Mountain Bus Company Transit Supervisors, has announced their intention to escalate labour actions. This may lead to a complete cessation of bus service across Metro Vancouver starting at 3 am on Monday, January 22.
Should this job action proceed, we anticipate a full-scale shutdown of both bus and SeaBus services for a minimum of 48 hours. Please note, however, that SkyTrain, Canada Line, West Coast Express, and other contracted services are expected to remain operational.
We understand that a transit strike can significantly affect those families who rely on public transportation for school and work commutes. We also expect increased traffic and other related impacts from the strike. Please be assured that Johnathan Academy will remain open as usual during this period.
We encourage all students and families to plan ahead and make necessary arrangements to ensure timely arrival at school. It might be helpful to consider alternative modes of transportation or adjust departure times to accommodate potential delays.
For students who require early arrival or late departure, please remember that our school opens at 7:45 am and remains open until 5:30 pm.
Should you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out to our school office at communicationsja@cseec.ca.
Additionally, we recommend keeping an eye on the Translink Alert Page for the most up-to-date information regarding transit alerts.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, and we hope to ensure minimal disruption to our students' learning experience.
